Vine Run 2010

Run for Wine 2010

Vine Run 2010

Wow, what a fine group of athletes!  Half- Marathon runners.  All sizes, ages, level of  fitness… all up at the crack of dawn to enjoy the Oregon wine countryside.  We stood by the great fir trees by our driveway to cheer them on… they smiled back & said thanks for coming out to support THEM… can you believe?  Our own B & B hosted runners.. at 0515  we served coffee, juices, bananas, cold cereals, baked healthful oatmeal (with nuts, chopped apples & craisins), blueberry muffins and morning glory muffins… bowl of fresh cherries… mmmm..

Now on to the celebration with liquid fruit of the vine..  wine tasting festivities in Carlton, “Who’s on Third” in downtown McMinnville, and continuing with most wineries through the long holiday weekend.

Hopefully this inaugural event will continue annually.

TURKEY RAMA – JOIN THE FLOCK

June 26th, 2010 by lobenhaus

Turkey Rama 2010

“Fifty Years of Turkey Fun!”

Turkey Rama, McMinnville’s favorite annual summer festival will be held Friday & Saturday, July 9-10, 2010. One of McMinnville’s oldest traditions, Turkey Rama is celebrating its 50th year in 2010…so make plans now to join us!

Each year thousands of people flock to McMinnville for the food, fun and entertainment of Turkey Rama. The community festival observes the historical importance of the once-thriving turkey business in the surrounding county—the turkey farms are gone, but Turkey Rama lives on!

The McMinnville Area Chamber of Commerce and the McMinnville Downtown Association are partnering once again to present the 2010 festivities which will feature the “World’s Largest Turkey BBQ,” the Downtown Festival in Historic turkey-rama-grill.jpgDowntown McMinnville, the Turkey Trot (8K Race/2M Walk), the Biggest Turkey Contest, a Community Sock Hop, and much more! For more information, please contact the McMinnville Area Chamber of Commerce at 503-472-6196.

McMinnville is located on Highway 99W, 35 miles southwest of Portland and 25 miles northwest of Salem.

  • Downtown Festival: Historic Downtown McMinnville will once again be filled with sidewalk sales, vendor booths, music and a variety of entertainment and fun activities for the whole family. Downtown activities will be open 11 AM to 10 PM on Friday and 10 AM to 8 PM on Saturday.
  • The World’s Largest Turkey BBQ: For those looking for good barbecued turkey, McMinnville is the place! Once again this year we will grill over 5 tons of turkey on Saturday, July 10, 11 AM to 6 PM. Live music and entertainment will also be featured in Wortman Park during the BBQ.

The barbecue features fresh barbecued turkey, prepared on-site. Guests can order a turkey dinner or a fully cooked barbecued turkey-half to take home. Turkey dinners include a generous portion of turkey, potato salad and coleslaw, dinner roll, watermelon, cake and soft drink. Turkey dinners are $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children.

Fully cooked barbecued turkey halves are $15 each. Turkey halves can be purchased at four locations around town—the BBQ site at Wortman Park (11 AM until sold out), Town Center/Rite-Aid (9 AM to 2 PM), Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot (10 AM to 3 PM), and at the Downtown Information Booth (Noon until sold out).

  • Biggest Turkey Contest: This perennial community favorite is a fundraising competition that benefits local charities. This year’s talent show—a grand finale to the competition—will be held on the Downtown Main Stage at 6 PM. For more information about the contest, contact Kris Gullo at the McMinnville Downtown Association.
  • Turkey Trot: This 8K Run/2-Mile Walk benefits the Willamette Valley Cancer Foundation and is a traditional part of our Turkey Rama festivities. This year’s run will be held on Saturday, July 10, with registration starting at 7 AM. For more information about the contest, see “Turkey Trot”, or contact Leslie Banke at the McMinnville Chamber.

Other community events will be held throughout McMinnville in conjunction with Turkey Rama. You can view a complete schedule of events.

Cycling in Oregon Wine Country

May 16th, 2010 by lobenhaus

Tandem Cyclists

Recent guests from the East Coast showed us the very best way to see the country is on a bicycle.  This adventuresome couple brought their tandem bike on the airplane – all apart  in its special case.  They rode about 30 miles each day – in 10 mile increments – stopping to allow for breaks in the weather, to meet & chat with the locals, to smell the “roses”, and to taste some fine wine.  They even took the Wheatland Ferry across the Willamette River  to a wonderful park on the other side.

We were honored to host them at our Bed & Breakfast for 5 days…. more proof only the best guests stay at B & B s.
